stocks were falling Friday, following a report from Bloomberg that

to possibly offer low-cost or even free nationwide mobile phone service to Prime subscribers.

Amazon (ticker: AMZN) is negotiating with

(VZ), T-Mobile (TMUS), and Dish Network (DISH) to get low wholesale prices, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The talks have also included AT&T (T) at times.

Amazon, T-Mobile, and Verizon denied the report.

“We are always exploring adding even more benefits for Prime members, but don’t have plans to add wireless at this time,” said Bradley Mattinger, an Amazon spokesperson.

T-Mobile told באַראָן ס that “Amazon is a great partner to T-Mobile in many areas, and we are always interested in working more closely with our cross-town neighbors in new ways. However, we are not in discussions about inclusion of our wireless in Prime service, and Amazon has told us they have no plans to add wireless service.”

T-Mobile stock had fallen 8.3% to $11.56, and was on pace for its largest percent decrease since March 2020, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The stock was the worst performer in the

T-Mobile shares have outperformed the other wireless providers in 2023. The company tends to provide its services to a lower demographic consumer. If Amazon were to start offering low-cost or free phone services, that could put T-Mobile at risk of losing market share.

A Verizon spokesperson confirmed to באַראָן ס the company isn’t in negotiations with Amazon on this topic. Shares of Verizon were down 5% to $33.95, and were on pace for their lowest close since August 2011, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The stock was the worst performer in the

was also declining Friday, with shares down 5% to $15.02, which would be the stock’s lowest close since October 2022.

Dish investors seemed much more open to the idea of a partnership with Amazon, with its stock surging 21% and on pace for its largest percentage increase since January 2001. Amazon stock was rising 1.6%.

Talks with the carriers have been ongoing for about six to eight weeks, according to the Bloomberg. It is possible the plan may take several more months to launch, and it might not even come to fruition.

Bloomberg added that if a deal went through, wireless plans for Prime members would cost around $10 a month, or possibly even be free.
